YEAR 2023

We collaborated with the Port of San Diego to retrofit coastal protection infrastructure using our bio-enhancing Coastalock armoring solutions, manufactured by local construction partners. The riprap revetment maintains structural performance and creates complex intertidal and subtidal habitats, supporting the Port’s long-term resilience and environmental strategy.

The Port of San Diego sought to integrate a coastal protection solution that combines infrastructure durability and resilience with environmental co-benefits to protect critical port assets. We deployed a Coastalock riprap revetment that strengthens port infrastructure resilience while creating complex subtidal and intertidal habitats that support local biodiversity, in line with the Port’s environmental stewardship commitment. TESTIMONIALS

“The Coastalock is the trifecta we love: carbon sequestration, smaller footprint, while at the same time, providing resilience.”

John Jason H. Giffen, Chief Sustainability & Innovation Officer at the Port of San Diego

“The economic return is not the only source of value that a project like this and a technology like this creates. The environmental benefits and social benefits also produce tremendous value. Whenever we can generate more value by spending fewer resources and creating multiple public benefits, that’s smart, that’s good business, that’s positive leverage and that’s what we should be doing.”

Rafael Castellanos, Commissionner at the Port of San Diego
